Tick Removal

"Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads. Here is a good way to get them off you, your children, or your pets. Give it a try. Please forward to anyone with children... or hunters or dogs, or anyone who even steps outside in the summer!! A School Nurse has written the info below -- good enough to share -- And it really works!! I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. This is great, because it works in those places where it's some times difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc. Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me. Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called me back to say, 'It worked!' Please pass on. Everyone needs this helpful hint." -Courtesy, PaVVS family members, Thank you!

Memo to all Pets:

The following was found posted very low on a refrigerator door.

Dear Dogs and Cats: The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack.
Racing me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help
because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very
sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch
to ensure your comfort, however. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in
a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular
to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also
know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on
the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom!  If, by
some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it
is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your
paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through
the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years
--
canine / feline attendance is not required.

The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.

Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door:

TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:

(1) They live here. You don't. (2) If you don't want their hair on your
clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it 'fur'-niture.
(3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people. (4) To you,
they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short,
hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.

Remember,
dogs and cats are better than kids because they
(1) eat less,
(2) don't ask for money all the time,
(3) are easier to train,
(4)normally come when called,
(5) never ask to drive the car,
(6) don't hang out with drug-using people;
(7) don't smoke or drink,
(8) don't want to
wear your clothes, (9) don't have to buy the latest fashions
(10) don't need a gazillion dollars for college and
(11) if they get pregnant, you can sell their Children.

Dictation from Walker-- although Sneaker kept interrupting,

Dear Mom,

Glad to hear you are enjoying the warm Aruba breezes.
We woke up this morning to a bit of snow but that did not deter us from going in the car with Vanessa. After inspecting every crumb on the floor we settled down for a ride to her mother's house. I told her to hurry while we waited in the car. Next we went to the lake and went in the pond --it was freezing, this was Sneaker's idea--

S: --but there were ducks!

W: --besides the mud was gross!

S: --tell here we saw a jogger!

W: Right, so then we looked both ways and crossed the street. Then Vanessa gave us cookie's and we got to run around the field.

S: --Every time we came back and sat down we got more cookies! It was AMAZING.

W: Sneaker and I made sure we sniffed every square inch of the field, pee'd where appropriate and then before we knew it, it was time to go.

S:-- and we got MORE cookies!

W: Yeah, the cookies were great. Now mom don't forget, down dog, Na Ma Ste

Moo Moo

Moo-moo June 30, 2004 to October 30, 2008. Also known as the “electrocuted hairball” or MOO, she was the sweetest snarling rag-doll Persian cat I’ve ever met. She loved to chase anything that moved as long as it also demanded dramatic twists, swats, and pounces. Preferably, it did not involve snow, or wet grass but somehow rain was okay. She only needed her claws to wake you in the morning and officially collapse the mouse population in West Islip.
